To sync the contacts on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with Microsoft Outlook I installed Samsung Kies on my laptop. The version of Samsung Kies I installed was the 2.5.0.12094_28 version. If you need the link to download Samsung Kies follow this one download Samsung Kies. The setup installed Samsung Kies and started immediately the download of some hotfixes or updates for Samsung Kies. At the end the installation of Samsung Kies took a few minutes.
Hint
Before you start to sync your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with MS Office you have to think about where your latest contacts are stored. Do you manage your contacts in your google account or in your MS Outlook. That is important because I describe in this article how to sync MS Outlook and your Note 2 with Samsung Kies.
For syncing my Note 2 with MS Outlook I connected the Note 2 via USB cable on my laptop and started Kies.
After I started Samsung Kies on my laptop the Note 2 was immediately recognized by the Kies on the USB port. As you see in the picture above the Note 2 is displayed as GT-N7100 inside Kies. Next I opened the tab Sync and Kies shows the sync options which are available.

Sync contacts with Outlook
Microsoft Outlook -> Samsung Galaxy Note 2
The Note 2 is new and I have no contacts on my Smartphone. I want to sync my MS outlook contacts on my Note 2. For this I configured Kies as described below.
- Sync contacts with -> Outlook
- All contacts
- Syncing direction -> Apply to device only.
- I let the Check Box “Sync the Outlook category with the contact group of the devide” checked. (With this configuration the groups which are configured in my Note 2 contact list will be synced to MS Outlook.)

Next I clicked on the Sync button in the upper right corner and the contacts where synced from outlook on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
After the sync process was finished the two contacts where stored on my Galaxy Note 2. The next pictrues shows the two synced contacts on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 -> Microsoft Outlook
The next step is to sync the contacts back from the Note 2 to my MS Outlook on my laptop. For this I will change the two contacts directly on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. After this I will sync the two modified contacts back to my MS Outlook.
I will delete the picture from Mr. Derrick and modify the cellphone number from Mrs. Daisey. I change the last six digits to 111 – 111.
Now I will sync my Note 2 with Samsung Kies as follows:
- Sync contacts with -> Outlook
- All contacts
- Syncing direction -> Apply to Outlook only.
- I let the Check Box “Sync the Outlook category with the contact group of the devide” checked. (With this configuration the groups which are configured in my Note 2 contact list will be synced to MS Outlook.)
As you see in the screenshot below my MS Outlook has two contact lists. Samsung Kies offers a dropdown box to select the one I want to sync the contacts to.
After I clicked the sync button the modified contacts where synced to my MS Outlook. This shows the next picture. The picture form Mr. Derrick is now deleted and the cellphone number from Mrs. Daisey shows at the end the 111 – 111. (Sorry I only have the german version of MS Outlook.)
Conclusion
The sync process works perfect for my two test contacts I used to take the pictures for this article. I don’t want to show my private contacts on the pictures I upload here for this article. I also synced all my private contacts with Samsung Kies and this also works perfect for me. I synced my private contacts in both directions. At the end I had no double entries in MS outlook nor on my Note 2. At the end the impression of Samsung Kies is very good.
