My Best 3D Prints Part 1: Adjustable PCB Holder

In this new article series, I regularly present particularly useful and well-designed 3D models that I’ve printed and tested myself using my Bambu Lab X1C 3D printer. I’ll be showcasing models that have genuinely helped me in daily life or with various projects, along with my personal experiences. Today’s feature is especially interesting for electronics fans and hobbyists: a flexible adjustable PCB holder that I recently printed and tested extensively.

The Model: Adjustable PCB Holder

For a long time, I lacked a reliable, stable, and easily adjustable solution to hold PCBs securely while working on electronics projects. That’s exactly what the adjustable PCB holder is perfect for. I found it on the popular platform Printables.com, where it’s already highly recommended by many users.

Print Details & Quality Experience with the Bambu Lab X1C

  • Printer used: Bambu Lab X1C
  • Material: PLA (standard)
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm (standard)
  • Infill: 20%
  • Print time: around 3 hours
What impressed me most with this print was the outstanding dimensional accuracy of all components. Even during the first assembly, it was clear that the Bambu Lab X1C is not only fast but extremely precise. All moving parts fit together immediately, the threads were clean, and no post-processing was needed. This saves time and adds to the fun when working with the finished model. If you don’t have access to a 3D printer, this third-hand tool might be a great alternative for hands-free soldering:

Look & Customization: Colorful Tools Are More Fun!

Another benefit of 3D printing is the wide variety of filament colors. Especially in the workshop, I appreciate when tools are not just functional but also visually appealing. That’s why I printed the PCB holder in two different colors: the main structure in a neutral gray, and the adjustment knobs in bright orange. This color combo looks professional, increases visibility, and fits perfectly in my workshop. If you’re printing multiple tools, color customization also helps with organization and quickly finding the right part.

Real-World Use & Everyday Value

In practice, the PCB holder fully met my expectations. Thanks to its precisely printed threads and sliders, it is very easy to adjust smoothly. This allows me to securely fix PCBs of all sizes quickly. Especially during soldering or circuit testing, having both hands free is a huge advantage that improves precision and comfort. One thing to keep in mind: since the holder is entirely made of PLA, it’s naturally not heat-resistant. So while soldering, be a little cautious. Direct contact between the soldering iron and plastic parts, or strong heat exposure, could melt or deform the PLA. In practice, this is rarely a problem with careful handling. For longer soldering sessions or higher temperatures, you might consider printing at least the clamping jaws in a heat-resistant material such as PETG or ABS.

My Personal Conclusion

To me, this PCB holder is a complete success and a great example of how practical and versatile a good 3D printer like the Bambu Lab X1C can be. I’m impressed by the precision, functionality, and visual appeal of this model in my workshop. A few small tweaks in material selection could increase its utility even more, but overall, this PCB holder is a highly recommended and helpful tool for any electronics enthusiast. In upcoming articles in this series, I’ll be featuring more useful and well-designed 3D print models that I’ve created myself. So check back regularly for new inspiration!
